More information on Fire Extinguishers
SafeQuip provides a comprehensive range of high quality SABS 1910, SABS 1322 and SABS 1567 certified fire extinguishers to suit all marine, industrial, automotive and household requirements. Our selection of fire extinguishers are constructed to provide easy safe maintenance to SABS 1475 specifications by qualified SAQCC technicians.
It is important to use the appropriate extinguisher for the type of substance that is burning (wood, oil, electrics, etc.) as shown by the classification below:
Class A: suitable for combustible materials such as paper, wood, cardboard and most plastics.
Class B: required when the fire involves flammable or combustible liquids such as petrol, kerosene, grease and oil.
Class C: best suited for fires involving electrical equipment such as appliances, wiring, circuit breakers and outlets. NB: Never use water to extinguish class C fires!
Class D: for fires involving chemicals and combustible metals such as magnesium, titanium, potassium and sodium.
Class F: designed for fires that involve cooking oils, trans-fats or fats in cooking appliances that are typically found in restaurants.
Different extinguishing mediums are available for specific classes of fire which necessitates the assessment of the type of hazard in the particular area you are protecting in order to maximise the effectiveness of the extinguisher you are going to have available in a fire emergency.
We supply portable fire extinguishers, and permanently installed extinguishers for special suppression purposes (e.g. boats, aircraft engines, restaurant extraction cooker hoods, laboratory fume cabinets, electrical cabinets or computer rooms.) SafeQuip’s comprehensive range of fire extinguishers includes Blue Crane, Firemate and Safequip brands such as Lithex and XC-JD
