ASIB Approved / Listed Supplier

The Automatic Sprinkler Inspection Bureau (ASIB), was founded in 1970 by the thirty-five short term insurance companies that were operating at that time. The general philosophy was that whilst the insurance companies may differ in respect of premiums and ratings, they would not do so for the requirements for fixed fire protection and a uniform inspection standard was essential for them.

FFETA was formed in 1973 for the benefit of manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers of fire fighting equipment and their customers.

Our main aims are to inform members and encourage customer satisfaction through product integrity and our Code of Conduct.

SAQCC

The South African Qualification & Certification Committee (SAQCC) Fire is an industry-elected body established to ensure that individuals working within this sector of the fire industry have the appropriate competence through training, qualifications, and experience in compliance with:

  • The specifications laid out in SANS 1475 for portable fire extinguishers,
  • The requirements of SANS 14520 and/or SANS 306 where individuals and companies designing, installing, commissioning, and servicing gaseous fire extinguishing systems,
  • The requirements of SANS 10139 where individuals and companies designing, installing, commissioning, and servicing fire detection and alarm systems.

FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH AFRICA

The Fire Protection Association of Southern Africa (FPASA) was established in 1973 to provide a specialized fire safety management technical and training service to industry, commerce and society at large.

Over the years the Association has developed a range of membership options and technical, training and fire safety management services that are recognized for their quality, professionalism and value.

    SANS CERTIFICATIONS

SANS 1910

This standard covers the principal requirements for the safety, reliability and performance of portable, stored pressure, refillable type fire extinguishers suitable for use on fires of classes A, B and C. It covers the requirements for water type, foam type and dry chemical powder type fire extinguishers. It does not cover the requirements for CO2 fire extinguishers. For the requirements of this fire extinguisher, refer to SANS 1567

    Note: It’s a requirement of SANS 1910 that the SANS 1910 mark holder must be accredited in accordance with SANS 1522

SANS 1522

This standard covers the requirements for fire extinguishing powders for fires of class A, class B and class C.

SANS 543

This standard specifies requirements for the construction and performance of fire hose reel systems with semi-rigid hoses for installation in buildings and other construction works which are permanently connected to a water supply.

SANS 1567

This standard specifies the characteristics of portable rechargeable fire extinguishers of the CO2 type, of charge mass not exceeding 9 kg and suitable for use on class BC fires

SANS 1186

    SANS 1186-1

This part of SANS 1186 specifies requirements for standard ordinary (non-reflective) symbolic safety signs, including signs on vinyl sheets (decals). This part of SANS 1186 also specifies general requirements applicable to self-luminous (radio luminescent), internally illuminated, retro-reflective and photoluminescent symbolic safety signs (complete with their backing sheets, where applicable).
